We may be feeling a degree of spiritual difficulty, a sense of being held back. To dream of a jailer suggests we feel we are being restricted in some way, maybe by our own emotions or by somebody else's personality or actions. There will be a sense of self-criticism and of alienation which makes it difficult to carry out our ordinary, everyday tasks. When we are in a situation from which we cannot escape, the personality that appears in our dream often gives information as to how we have got ourselves into that situation. For instance, being unfairly treated by our jailer would indicate that not only may we have been party to the entrapment, but also that we have become victims of our own circumstances.
