A hostage is a person held as security. Spiritually, therefore, this has the same connotation as kidnap since it would constitute a crime against the right of the individual. Hostages held for religious reasons in dreams suggest that we are unsure of our own beliefs. An emotional hostage is that part of us that in dreams recognizes that it has had the ability to think and feel for ourselves taken away, either through trauma or neglect. In dreams, to find ourselves taken as hostage suggests that we have put ourselves in the position of being a victim and do not feel that we are able to resist.
