A metaphor for life itself, with its merry-go-round and its spiritual 'ups and downs', is the image of a fairground. The fairground has a dreamlike quality of its own. It is a sort of enclosed world, a place where the trials and tribulations of the external world can be forgotten for a time. When we dream of such a place we are becoming more aware of the more hedonistic side of our nature. We are more wrapped up in our own pleasures. To dream of being in a fairground may represent a reconnection with our light-hearted childlike nature. We can afford to be less inhibited in public. To be attending a carnival or fiesta means we can drop whatever constraints or restraints we may impose on ourselves or others.
