Any kind of corruption suggests deliberate interference in a negative way. Morally, we have moved beyond acceptable behaviour. Corruption denotes a tainting or spoiling, particularly of our integrity, so any such image signifies something which is imperfect or has been made so by a negative influence. An article which is decaying or corrupted is now no longer useful so from a mundane perspective we may need to look at aspects of our lives which have outlived their usefulness.
