Spiritually the figure of the clown has the same significance as the jester, that being the ability to laugh at our foibles and idiosyncrasies. The clown will often suggest the ability to see and sense the ridiculous in life. Often there is a tinge of sadness in this, however. In life a true clown must register his mask after which no-one else can use the same make-up and a clown can have this same significance in dreams. We must 'register' the performance we put on for the world.
